Prof. Elon Lindenstrauss
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem

His pioneering research in ergodic theory has had impact in number theory and other mathematical disciplines and served as the basis for much further research. Ergodic theory is a branch of mathematics studying the long term behaviour of dynamical systems, such as various systems arising from physics, that evolve over time. In 2010, Prof. Lindenstrauss was the first Israeli to win the Fields Medal, known as the “Nobel Prize of Mathematics”.
