The sulfated polysaccharide that encapsulates red microalgal cells has been studied intensively by the researcher (physiology, biochemistry, chemistry, and molecular structure). A unique large-scale production technology has been developed (see picture). The novel material – with its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and lubricant bioactivities – is already being used in the products of a leading international cosmetics company. Pharmaceutical development is underway.
